I installed my wife's EVO 120GB over the holiday - the migration software actually worked. Remember to back up your data with two methods before starting - first a hard drive image - so you can restore the hard drive back to initial setup, and second backup your data folders. This method takes a lot longer than the migration software, but it works. You need to remove the partitions of the hard drive, then create a new one, format it, and restore your data. Apply all updates and patches - This will tell you if the SSD is in good working order - and check performance of the drive.Īfter booting and applying the patches, install the hard drive, and move anything that needs to be moved, and reinstall programs that need to be installed. Next, try the migration software - if it works, great, if not - restore the image for the HDD, then pull the hard drives out of the computer, and try to install Windows 7/8 on the SSD with no other drives in the system. Create an image for your hard drive to put it back if things go wrong, and have a full data backup. My advice to everyone - first thing you do is back everything up. I have noticed quite a few people having issues with the data migration software - it seems to work great for some, some people it works, but not optimum performance, and others it doesn't work at all.
